Cat Sitter In The City Declares Saturday Night Live The Most Cat-Friendly Show On Television

When I watch Saturday Night Live, I don't see the show like most viewers do. I see it through the critical eye of a professional cat sitter. I can't help it. I can't separate myself from the cat sitter that I am, and as a cat sitter, I take notice of and appreciate the high level of cat integration on Saturday Night Live.

Let's face it: You rarely see cats on shows like The Office, Dexter or Anderson Cooper 360. But felines are oftentimes featured on Saturday Night Live. In fact, a few were seen just last night during the "Good Excuses" sketch, which had Will Forte and my comedic idol Kristen Wiig, who is destined to portray me in the inevitable Cat Sitter in the City movie, playing local TV show hosts who provide their guests with good excuses. Real live cats actually portrayed the show's audience members.

To be honest, the sketch wasn't the episode's funniest. Still, the inclusion of cats must be praised, and the cats themselves earn kudos for being funny without trying too hard.

Meanwhile, Saturday Night Live cast member Bobby Moynihan recently played a cat from the musical Cats in a Broadway-themed sketch, and Moynihan was also seen as Snagglepuss earlier this season. I don't know whether Moynihan grew up with cats or perhaps did some cat sitting while he was a struggling actor, but this man knows how to play a cat. It is a delight to watch Moynihan lose himself in each feline role he tackles.

And how about those Laser Cats? While we have yet to see any Laser Cats sketches this season, they have been included on the show as recently as last season. Saturday Night Live cast members Andy Samberg and Bill Hader don't play cats, but they work with live cats, using them as lasers as if this was something they were born to do. Samberg and Hader's ease with cats is nothing short of remarkable.

Clearly, Saturday Night Live's cast, writers and production staff have an appreciation for the feline in comedy, and while other shows shy away from the use of cats, Saturday Night Live isn't afraid to work with them.

Keep up the cat integration, Saturday Night Live. The show might not get an Emmy for it, but Cat Sitter in the City just might bestow a Catty on Saturday Night Live one of these days.
